«We just announced we’re building our newest data center in Singapore. This will be our 15th data center worldwide and our first in Asia. Our community is growing quickly and this is important infrastructure to serve everyone. Like all our data centers, this will be powered by 100% renewable energy», Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg noted on his Facebook page.
A major social networking company has signed an agreement with the Sembcorp Energy Company to supply 50 MW of solar energy to Facebook over the next 20 years. The feature of the transaction lies in the use of solar power plants, according to which solar panels should be installed on about 900 roofs by 2020. The Sembcorp transaction is the first step in securing a Singapore-based judiciary and Facebook office, which will be fully powered by renewable energy.
